just got back from the dealer for a alignment after new ball joint upper and lower and a 2" level kit. truck was way out of wack. needed new different pitch camber sets. is that normal? its a 2wd, 2000 f350 dually. just seems like it wouldnt need that much work or parts. anyone been down this road?
Mine also needed a new camber kit when I replaced all 4 ball joints. I was also surprised, especially since my 2WD is otherwise stock, no lift kit or suspension modifications.
It is common for shops to recommend adjustable camber kits when replacing ball joints. Been there myself. They're not that expensive, and offer plenty of adjustments in the event of future mods require it.
Regarding the OP's issue. Been there, too. The adjustable camber bushings are not always required, but we are not the only ones who have needed to do this, and I'm also not the only one who had to go one step further with some minor grinding for proper clearance.
I had to not only install dual adjustable camber bushings with my new ball joints and 2" front leveling kit, I also had to grind the ends of the top knuckle arms and inside mating face of the c-frames to allow the adjustable bushings to pull the camber into proper position.
I've attached a PDF which describes the grinding I did, using the bottom ball joint knuckle arm as a comparison of what the top knuckle arm looked like before the grinding.
