lost my dipstick

I got a 92 f350 with the 7.3, I havent checked my oil in a while and when I went to check it today I ran into an issue. THe long flat part of the dipstick is no longer connected to the top part. Any body have any ideas how I can get the flat part out? I was thinking about trying to take the dipstick tube off and see if I'd get lucky and be able to grab it. How does the tube come off?

Never took one out of a diesel, but the gassers are just pressed into the side of the block.

I just replaced my leaking dipstick tube. Just undo the one bolt up at the top mount, go under the truck and pull the whole tube out, it's just held in with an o ring. It will leak a little oil out so be prepared.
