Steering Wheel Backing Removal?
How do you get it off? I removed the horn ring and everything, but can't figure out how to get that backing off. I got a nice condition steering wheel today that I can use with the old backing, and wanted to make a Frankenstein. Thanks in advance!

Horn ring?
What year is your truck?
Have you got the wheel pulled or do you need to pull it?
Can you post a picture.

Here's the photos. The horn contact ring has been removed. I want to get the plastic part off, and put it on the new wheel. The red wheel was off a 74 Cougar XR7, and I found a good condition stock dent wheel that had a crappy backing. I want to swap them over. How do I get that sucker apart?

The part you are speaking of doesn't come off. It was only serviced with the steering wheel.

That's a shame. The steering wheel is practically mint, but the backing is disintegrating.

Yep he is right. It is why everybody said to fix the old one and paint it.

What is wrong with it? Backings rarely go bad. A little rusty, but a steel wool pad will take care of that.

The plastic is falling apart in chunks. The steering wheel is in great shape though!
