OK, I am ticked. Have been for a long time,,,,,but even more now. I subscribe to 4 Wheel & Offroad magazine. The latest version had tests of all the new heavy iron. I am ticked because all they did was rag on Ford. They loved the Chevy, but acted as though they tested the Ford just so they could degrade it. I don't know if this magazine is biased towards Chevy, or if the Ford really is junk. I have driven Fords for years and don't think I hate them as bad as others to. I really dislike Chevy's because I think they are junk, and a really weak platform. Everything....except the body on a Ford is nothing but tough. Even Chevy's heavy duty models appear to be cheaply made, where the Ford looks so much heavier. I could go on, but I just had to vent. There is no way when you put a Ford against a Chevy, it can come out that bad and a Chevy can look so good. I can only assume that the testers are extremely biased. I think I will cancel my subscription!
I NO LONGER buy mags that are not FORD specific due to their bias attitude towards gm products.also in parts ads they only list chevy applications, small block, big block etc, like they are the only vehichle on earth-chaps my a**!

Don't even get me started on that. All the performance mags and catologs I see target Chevy exclusively. In order to get Ford parts, you have to go to a Ford only source. This really burns my hind quarters!
I am also fed up with all publications where they are supposedly "comparing" trucks. Seems that each writer is biased against at least one brand, and Ford is usually it. They focus on car like rides and amenities instead of the durability and simplicity of design which a real truck needs to perform over a long life span.
Just this year I read one article comparing trucks. They used a Dodge DRW 3500 with the HO Cummins as the 1 ton platform vs. a Ford F-350 SRW with the 5.4 for their numbers. Gee, guess which was rated higher? And you really had to look at the fine print to find the exact models used so it made the Ford look real bad if you were just glancing at the numbers.
All you have to do is look at the "4 Wheeler of the Year" award given to the new Lexus (Toyota 4 Runner with wood and gold trim). They commented on how quiet it was and how you couldn't feel any road bumps at all. Aren't those qualities you would look for in a sedan or if you were a soccer mom? Seems that they are more like Car and Driver than truck magazines anymore.
The "4 wheeler of the year" award is a joke. Only all new or substantially re-designed "trucks" are eligible. Hence, Lexus is this year's winner. How disgusting!
I remember when Cheby first came out with the HD. Motor trend named it Truck of the year and did side by side with Ford and Dodge. The Cheby HD was a 3500, The
Dodge was a 2500 and the Ford was a F150 with the 5.4. Of course the Cheby ranked higher than the other two but I was very impressed that it barely beat the F150. The 5.4's HP was considerably lower than the 6.0 but the torque was almost identical and 1/4 mile was within 2mph.
I think most of those rags are like that. All the years I raced motorcycles, those rags were the same. They would test one bike they THOUGHT they would like, change the handlebars, tires, gearing, pipe, cylinder, air filter, forks, revalve the rear shock and then proclaim how SUPERIOR it was to a stock "brand X". It's just a joke.
The best "new truck" tests are done by the guys who really buy 'em and post the results in these forums
