vin # help
I have a 1966 F-250 4X4 and i was wondering if anyone could help me with deciphering my vin# as well as the following.
Model 260?
Color H
Transmission A
Body D81
Axle 25
DSO 547978
And the Vin# F26YK8116551
Also some years back i restored a 65 F-100 style side (my daily driver) during the restoration process i bought the service manuals off of eBay. The question is, can i expect much change from the 65 to the 66 ? Or should i go out and purchase the manuals for the 66?
Also F.Y.I to anyone interested, there is a Rad support for a 61-64 being auctioned on eBay currently. Last time i checked it was going for about $150.00 It looked in good shape.
Thanx for any help you can give!
Rob
I'll help you a bit from what I can.
The 260 is the 4x4 F-250
F26YK8116551
F26 - F-250 4x4
Y code shows up in 67 but its either a 352 of a 360 (360 released in 68-72)
K - manufactured in Kansas City, Mo
8116551 - Means it was the 8,116,551 truck made in that series.
Hopefully someone else can help you figure out the rest.
Im not sure on how to figure those out, as I only have a *** truck magazine, and I haven't found a place in there for body color, axles and stuff.. If anyone else knows, please help him out, and tell me how/where to find those codes
Also, about the owners manuals, I don't think there is that much difference, but maybe someone else can help you out.

You might want to check the VIN plate again and make sure of the information. Your missing W.B., GVW,HP, RPM. it's the lower section of the tag.

made in that series. The serial number is the last 6 digits of the VIN. This VIN has 7, so an extra number was typed in error.
1966 serial number range (includes ALL trucks, Bronco's and Econolines): 732,000 thru 914,000. / If the serial number is 811,655, this is the total number of all 1961/66 trucks, Bronco's, Econolines made thru this number.
kjvforme: If the Warranty Plate AXLE code has 3 digits, the 3rd digit applies to the front axle.
Only a few 4WD's (mainly 1959/64's) have a front axle code. 1973/79 4WD's rarely have one...and after 1979, there are none!
