92 f350 odometer reads error
odometer reads error anyone have any ideas what may be the problem?? The odometer stopped working when we had the auto trans shifter located on the steering column repaired. All other instruments speedo etc... still function properly

We would need alittle more info !
Like did this just happen ? just buy the truck with it this way? was the truck in an accident,things like that ?
You could have a bad instrument cluster module!

Maybe the person who repaired the shifter ,shorted the wiring out or loosened a wiring connector to the module .
I'm being pretty much basic here with this !
not having the truck here in front of us is kinda hard to fix! But that would be the way to go .

The only time I've seen this happen is when someone has attempted to tamper with the odometer reading. Perhaps the person who fixed the shift lever did something that the odometer read as tampering, thus the "error" readout. If you're lucky, a dealer MAY be able to re-program it. If not, it will need to go to a shop that specializes in such things (United Radio in Syracuse, NY is one). Keep in mind that, after having it re-programmed, there may always be a "marker" next to the readout, indicating that the odometer reading has been re-set. As we say in the business TMU (True Mileage Unknown), which would have a serious effect on your vehicle's trade-in value.
