For the 6.0 not something that I would do. Some have good things to say about hypertech, some do not. I tend to be one that favors custom tunes and the 6.0 seems to also favor custom tunes as well.
I'm looking for something to help with economy, not so much power.
What would you recommend?
Well first I have to go into my little deal about how you really shouldn't approach tuners with thinking quite a bit about economy. These are performance enhancers first and foremost. If you see better mpgs...great. Just don't expect it. The quickest, but boring, way to help with economy is the good ole right foot.
Now, having said all that and you still want to do the programmer route. I would suggest something like SCT's X3 or the Gryphon tuner from PHP if your on a budget, if you want to get a little fancy and uptown the Spartan Phalanwhat I use, but I lucked out and was a beta tester). All those are custom tuned and with custom tunes, you have a much higher chance of greater efficiency because the truck will be tuned for you specifically versus using generic one size fits all tuning.
You might have seen improvements with the generic ones, but some do not. It's a crap shoot and depending on how you drive or other factors it could still be a crap shoot with custom tunes. I truly believe you'll have more fun with the custom tune versus the canned tunes regardless of mpg gains or losses.
my right foot is pretty good, really, but if I recall from my old 7.3 days there was a "econ" setting that got me a decent gain OTR...
But this 6.0 is different...
Whatever you do stay away from the shift on the fly tuners and don't do any a/m intakes. The intakes aren't needed until you start getting up there with pretty good hp/tq numbers. Numbers that you get with bigger injectors and bigger turbos.
