HPOP fill plug

First off, How come Ford made the fill plug for my hpop something i need a square bit to get loose? I thought I read on here that they are allen wrench style. Well my plug on top is a square drive. Secondly, how come it couldn't be 1/4 inch? Instead its just smaller like a 7/32 or 3/16.

Alright i will look into that as soon as i can figure out how to get this one loose. I figured it wasn't the right plug because i went to napa and O'Reillys lookin for something square and just under 1/4 inch but neither of them had something. And i know that they should be allen wrench style plugs.

That seems odd to me... When I filled my 94's HPOP, I just used a 1/4" ratchet with an extension on it. It worked like a charm.....

If you have an old extension, you could grind a small amount off of each side...

that is kind of odd, mine was a 3/16 allen head, you might try to find a #3 square drive bit.

Ya it seemed odd to me when i first actually tried to open in with an allen wrench in hand and the plug was square.

So was yours square too? and thats exactly what i was thinking about doing. Just grabbin a cheap 3/8 to 1/4 drive and shaving off a little on each side until it fits.

Weird. I tried putting a 1/4 extension in there but it didnt fit. Thats why ive been looking for a 3/16. Im curious if yours is a 94 and and mines a 95 and the other guys are 96+. Did the earlier year psd's have this square plug and the later ones had the allen wrench style?

Yes, that's what it works off of. The engine's low pressure oil pump is supposed to fill the HPOP.
