Well if any of you looked last week I was looking at getting a 48 foot gooseneck trailer. Well, me and dad went and looked at it today and traded my 30 foot bumper pull for it. Mine is a 2002 and this one is a 1991 but both are pretty equal inside and in good shape. I traded mine for his and got his 1994 300 four wheeler too. I pd him 2500 difference. Now we can haul 2 fairlane race cars and the 4 wheeler to the track all in one trailer. We have 3 cars, but still have a single open trailer for the third one which my sister drives but doesn't run much. Dad can pull hers when she runs. We are selling a 42 foot open trailer we had to haul 2 cars on and a golf cart we used to use. After all is said and done we will sell two trailers, one golf cart and get one big trailer and a four wheeler with a winch, plow and other accessories and come out ahead $2000.
Even if we run 3 cars now we will save money travelling to and from the track. One big and one small trailer will be better on fuel than 2 big ones. When we just have two now we can use the 48 footer. Mine wouldn't work on the open one cause it sits too low to get on it.
Definitely will save fuel when going racing now, besides looking pretty cool pulling that big trailer with my truck!!
Sorry to be off topic, but I'm pretty excited. I'll post some pics up of it when I get it with my truck on it. Probably a month or so after some snow melts so I can find mine!!
Like I said in my first post I will definitely post pics when I get it. My trailer is buried in 6-7 foot snow drifts right now so in once it warms up a little I'll go get it. My trucks red and the trailers blue. Should look ok I think. Gotta get a big FORD sign on the side though. Previous owners were ford guys too but don't have a sign on it.
Darin, You beat me by 6' but mine is extra tall. The guy used to haul sprint cars with it. These trailers are unbelievable, I loaded mine to the ceiling with house hold stuff and weighted it at 24K. I was only a couple of pounds overweight, lol. There are great until you get into a spot where you can't turn around, hahaha!!!!
I'm just so glad he sold me the 4 wheeler too. If I wanted to take the golf cart with two cars I'd need at least 41' of floor space. The four wheeler is 2 feet shorter so I can get away with 39'. The floor is 40 foot so it will be tight but I'll make it work.
Just like turning around a semi, really don't want to do it unless absolutely necessary!!
The guy I bought it from said he used to use a late 80's or early 90's pickup before he got the 01 stroker dually one ton he uses now. Said he needed to put air bags on that. He's worried mine won't haul it real good, but I told him I think it will be ok, I've had mucho weight behind it already and never seen the back drop very far at all. I guess I'll find out soon. I realize its big, but I don't drive a chebby!! I've actually got a truck made for haulin! You guys know what I mean.
That's the only thing that I wonder about is the axles are a long ways back there. All I can do is wait and try. Air bags aren't that spendy anyway so if I need them means we saved a little money I'll get them. Probably wouldn't hurt means I pull with it most of the time anyway. We'll see.
The axles on those trailers that haul cars are a little ways back of center on the trailer and if you load the weight over the axles you probably won't need them. When we used ours for moving house hold stuff we way overloaded the front where it goes over the pickup. I had my bags filled up to 90 psi and that did the trick. But on our next run moving I concentrated on more weight in the rear and it handled a lot better. These car haulers are designed for more weight in the rear.
