I am trying to rebuild this engine in an 81 F100 4x2. I can not get the intake separated from the manifold. Is this a design for this truck, or just too much rust/ age?
there is a picture in my album. (under Blackhawk) I will try to get more today

Reason: pic wont load
take a torch, and heat the bolts cherry red, and then remove them. you need to seperate the manifolds from the exhaust first, then turn the intake exhaust upside down to work on it. usually there is no reason to seperate the 2, unless 1 is cracked, or broken.
It's just age. The intake and exhaust manifolds should be bolted together with three bolts. Mine (81 as well) came out with no problem, and the two came right apart.
The only other reason to separate the two is to replace the gasket between them.
There are three bolts around the heat riser/carb base. Two out of three of mine snapped in two when I rebuilt my engine. One cam out with a vise grip the other one was a 2 hour battle with many, many kind words. A torch and two busted easy outs later I just drilled it out and re threaded.
