Check your oil when the engine is warm. The dipstick is made to be read when the oil is warm. Oil expands with heat. So if you check the oil when its cold, it may seem like you're chewing through oil. So if you continue to top it off, the engine will actually burn off everything you add because it's overfull. Your oil usage sounds normal. The older rigs tend to burn oil due to an internal engine design. Just keep checking your oil and add if necessary, you're in good shape.
Oh, another side note. When you check your oil warm, give your truck about 15 minutes to cool down before you check it so that all the oil in the top end flows down into the pan, and the reading will be more accurate.
