I know this has been asked somewhat many times but I am looking at this truck tomorrow (1986 FORD F-250 4x4 diesel XLT) This might be my first diesel and I need to know what to look for, and what everyone would say the truck needs to be this value. There are no pics so I won't know the condition of the truck until I get there. Right now I'm looking for a cheep truck (under 4000) to replace my existing truck. The only reason I'm looking to replacing my truck is because it is a reg cab and I know want a extended or crewcab now that I have two kids.
Just my 2 cents, it would have to be pretty cherry and I like the 86 models. One of the members has a crew with the high cab in the back 4x4 ith a turbo and gearvendors for 2500 that just needs a tranny rebuild. C6 they are the cheapest to rebuild too.
I'm def not going to settle, my truck still works perfectly, and does what I need it to do. I just need the extra seating instead of relying on the in-laws to pick up the family when I need the truck and the family,
yeah, that would really have to be super clean and/or good upgrades for an 86 to pull in this much.
i got my 93 cheaper.tho, the bed was rotted(which i didn't care as i had the dump bed you see planned prior to buying.) and needs a couple front fenders.and some typical work any 16/17 yr old truck which sat most of its life would.
if it's not far,id go look at it.but id be expecting the best an 86 could look like.
even then, your only looking at a 3 speed truck.fine for its day.but man, that OD is good to have.(until your speedo goes and you need to limp home hahaha.)
its not likely going to be as pretty as it needs to be for 3500 if its in Rochester Mass.but you never know until you check it out.
I paid 1500 for my '86 XLT with a 6.9 and maybe 175,000 on it. Ran great for another 75,000 plus. That was in '07. For 4000, it'd have to be cherry or built.
Well I paid 4000 for my dually and bought new tires for it before I drove it home, It was super clean and setup like I wanted, so I feel like it was worth it. Between the gearvendors, turbo, dually kit and alcoas, it would have cost way more just for the add ons.
For a reference I just picked up this '86 F-250 4x4 6.9L longbox standard cab for $500. It needed one new battery, new cables, new tie rods and an alignment, but the thing runs great. It has a 4 speed manual.
If you look at my last post i am not sure what to do except sell for parts which make my heart bleed but i got a 91 f-350 super cab 4X4 w/138000 for $500 this truck has banks everything and runs like a top not sure what to do any advice

lol wow.
ok,but there must be more to the story.it was from a family member or something right?
that was a steal.
i wish it were a family member i wouldn't feel bad about hurting somebody. J/K no i found the ad on craigslist and bought instantly knowing nothing about idi but that i loved diesel and wanted to learn. if you look at my posts i ask lots of questions wanting to learn and haved learned lots i have fell in love with this truck and all i want to do is drive it. i just have to figure out how to register it. I still drive it lots i have got around 30 cords of wood with it since early December.
nice.she's paid for herself about 15X already lol.
first two cord, then the rest was all gravy.
you sure the trucks not hot? not sure id of bitten on that deal lol.
the truck is not hot, the only thing i have going is i pull around trees on back roads, not many police out there, i just have to get the back roads sober lol!!!
