Why does it matter? I was told as long as you get the out from the tranny to the radiator first, then to any aux cooler you may have, it's right. What happens if you get the in/out backwards?
I knew somebody was gonna ask that question!
Honestly, I don't know how much but the cooler runs more efficiently hooked up that way. It has to do with the direction of flow in the cooler vs. the direction of flow in the radiator tank. Hooked up that way they run in opposite directions. This reduces the self-heating effect on the cooler, you want the hottest part of the cooler downstream and the coolest part upstream. That way when the cooler gives up heat in the radiator, it doesn't pass as much heat back over the cooler again because the hottest part is in the rear. Another way to think of it is the tranny fluid "sees" cooler radiator flow past it. I hope that makes sense, I had to visualize it for quite a while. All vehicles are plumbed this way. And yes, you always want to put an add-on cooler in the return line to the tranny.
This makes great sense, but now I need to know which is the in & out of the AOD. Can someone help me with this, I was planning on tring to plum the tranny this weekend?
