I don't like the gas numbers. That new trans better be a miracle worker. Peak torque at 4600 rpm. I wonder what the rpm range is where the torque curve is flat?
In a short time when dodge comes out with the 6.4l hemi and 6 sp auto, how is Ford going to answer? There is no way a 3 valve ford 6.2l is going to compete. It is going to be a worse situation then when the 5.4l was competing against the hemi.
At least with the 5.4l, it was setup different. It had better low end pulling power. Now with the 6.2l shifting its power higher in the rpm range like the hemi .... well, like I said, that new trans better be a miracle worker.
This forum needs to quit comparing just the HP and TQ numbers. The Dodge truck is no match for our Superduty. Quality, strength of parts, reliability, all are better than the competition. So what if a new hemi has more power, dodge needs a better trans to be behind it than they have. The only thing that dodge has going for it is it's ability to keep the cummins engine in the HD trucks, thats it, IMO.
The biggest difference between the 6.2 V8 and 6.8 V10 will be fuel mileage. Yes, it lost some torque, but you probably will not notice it. And if it's a 3 Valve, it will have a broad torque curve, and even more so if it has VVT. The torque curve was one of the big selling points of the 3 valve engines. 80% of the available torque was ready at 1200 rpms. So about 325 ft/lbs just off idle. if the 405 peak is correct. I agree with others that think that the engine is de-tuned. There will be a big after market for the 6.2L
Edit: I should have read the article first no 3 valve 6.2, but it is still beating the dodge hemi, for now.
I find it interesting that the 350 dually supposedly can carry more weight than the 450 yet the 450 GVW is higher. The difference in truck weight? Why buy a 450?
You have the 19.5 in wheel option, which makes it able to put on long wearing Semi Tires. and a smoother ride. Have you seen a F-450 up close? these things are HUGE. I sat next to a 2010 in traffic the other day. If I hadn'e looked twice, I would have sworn it was a f-650 with a bed, you know the ones, the super trucks. I was impressed with the size, It really sits high, and looks solid as hell.

It's not a 3V engine, but it DOES have VCT. Here, from the 6.2L Q&A thread:

6.2L has 80% at approx 1250rpm, and 90% at 2500rpm.
So, with these new numbers, we'll have roughly 324 ft-lbs @1,250 RPMs and 365 @ 2,500 RPMs.
And also:

However, the 6.2L torque is much higher than the 5.4L throughout the engine speed range.
At no point do they cross.
Meaning that it pulls harder than the 5.4L V8 across the RPM range. What's not to like?

I have an 08 450. A 350 dually would handle my fiver but one of the reasons I bought the 450 was for the larger brakes. If they have a 19.5 tire option on the pickup model with larger brakes I would consider a 2011 (not really I have a few years left on the 08). But if they only have the 350 brakes with a reduced payload why buy a 450? I think there's an error in the article as to the payloads of the 350/450. Maybe reversed?
