I have an '03 with EGR Delete, 4" exhaust w/out cat, coolant filter...the truck runs great. However, if I don't plug it in at night it is harder to start (even at 55-60 degrees)...if I do plug it in, no problem. I'm considering getting the latest flash to correct the cold start, but I don't want to screw with anything else since it runs so good. I haven't checked the glow plugs or GPR yet. Should I get the flash or no? I'd hate to get it only to discover the cure is worse than the disease.
You shouldn't be having any trouble at 50-60 degrees, I would say you have more problems than a new flash will totaly fix. Like maybe a FICM!
let us know what you find.
Thanks...I don't mean to imply it's impossible to start, it just rolls over longer than I'd like and produces the white puff we all know. I also forgot to explain I have a remote start on it (works great but won't cycle the glow plugs repeatedly)...if I get in and cycle the glow plugs manually a few times then it busts off satisfactorily. I just want it to start with relative ease regardless. Is that alot to ask?
I'll try a synthetic oil next time but has anyone switched to a synthetic with more than 100k miles only to discover new drips or leaks on the driveway?
Lastly, what is the best / most recent flash for my 2003? My Oasis states it was 're-calibrated' in Dec. '07. Thanks for any / all help...
December '07 should be the early inductive heating strategy. I would get it reflashed since those are hard on the FICM. You won't have any trouble switching to synthetic, use a good quality like Mobile TDT or Valvoline Premium Blue Extreme (my choice).
