I have 1975 F600 uhaul truck. I took the carburetor off to rebuild it, then was activated to Iraq. After I returned, there were only about half of the carb left. I rented out my house and some things were taking from my shop. My VIN number is F60KVX42161. I can't find which engine it is. I think it is a 391 but I am unsure. Could anyone look in their manual and see for me please? I am wanting to purchase a carb from LMC for a couple hundred dollars. Would any 360 or 390 carb work for it?
Hmmm....It's definitely not a diesel. I found that the 4th digit is the engine code and that E=361 and D=330 but I can't find out what K means. Using process of elimination, I assumed it was the 391. I was just wanting to know for sure. On the driver side fender well there is a factory steel plate that has a parts list for the engine. Oil filter is FL1A which is a common one for older fords. I am sure that it is gas...just not sure which. Thanks for the help, just not what I was looking for.

He just told you what it means.
Where did you get the VIN? The door? That may not be correct, as doors get changed all the time and the plates don't get changed with them. You need the VIN off the frame to tell what originally came in the truck. If that is what you have listed, then don't assume it is a 391 just because it isn't a diesel. The process of elimination is useless when you don't know what you can eliminate.
First order of business is to get some pics put up here so we can see what you see.
Thanks everyone for the info. You are right...I did get the VIN off of the door. I will try to get some pics this weekend. It has a 2bbl Holley model 2300 carb on it. I have it off and in my house but the truck is at some property of mine about 20 miles from my house.
It's definitely crusty, and it's definitely an FT...the thermostat setup is a dead giveaway. And yes, it is a 359, a fleet engine ordered by UHaul in the 70s. It has an iron crank rather than a steel one, and because of that it is governed at 500 RPM lower than other FTs. Check out this link.
The 359 is mostly the same as an FT 361 except it is a U-Haul specific engine.
Bascially a lower cost version. Cast crank instead of the forged steel cranks in the 361/391.
I know the governor is set really low on those engines to keep their life long. Something like 500-750 RPM lower than the 361/391.
U-Haul also had a 389 low budget motor as well.
Depnding on what you are doing, the block is a strong foundation for a nice 390 build. The intake and cylinder heads are junk. The exhaust manifolds might bring you some cash on Ebay.
But, if you wanting to keep this a heavy truck motor it will run forever, albeit slowly, but it takes TNT to kill those motors.
Does anyone know what the axle width outside of tire to outside of tire is on my 1975 f500. Trying to find out if it will fit between the fenders of my trailer before driving 3 hours to pick it up
