it does with enough rubbing. dont know if it screw on or is epoxied or anything (dont pay attention to mirrors too much) but if you take some sandpaper to chrome, it comes right off.
Yes, but it's a risk that you'll break the mirror by getting to the screws. You tilt the mirror inboard & down as far as it will go, then put a flat screwdriver between the mirror & the housing, and pry it out gently. As it starts to flex, you'll be able to see the ring of "fingers" that hold the mirror on the tilt mechanism and you should see a gap where one is missing. If you're afraid you'll break the glass, reach in with a sharp probe while prying and try to release some of the fingers. They should eventually POP loose, and you can finish pulling the mirror off by hand. It just snaps back on, but make sure you push it ALL THE WAY back on.
There are 4 Torx screws that hold the front cover on the housing.
ya, how much u want for that chrome piece? i gotta wait till i find out and take the original piece off. im gunna paint them to match my truck but instead of gettin a whole new mirrior i thought i could fix the crack and paint it. hopefully its a crack and not a piece missin, its filled in with RTV silicon now.
i got it, thanx. i wont get a chance to take the mirror off to see if i can get the chrome piece off, its been bitterly cold (teens for highs). is there any time limit on the piece? cuz i might be able to if it gets a lil warmer...
