Ok, 1995 f350 5.8 liter. pulled distr. changed pickup coil put back and now the truck wont start. checked number one on compression stroke with #1 on cam and rotor. still wont start. any clues on what we did wrong please help.
the rotor inside the distributor should be pointed to the #1 piston if so re do your distributor wires and look at a haynes manual for the firing order so you know the order to put the wires on it .
1 - check firing order.
2 - make SURE you are at TDC on #1 cylinder.
3 - make sure rotor is pointed to #1 terminal in the distributor.
4 - disconnect the SPOUT.
5 - turn the distributor back and forth while cranking. Be careful not to shock yourself.
6 - when it catches, throw a timing light on it and set it to 10 BTDC.
Yea we had it at tdc on the compression stroke and rotor on number 1, checked it 4 times and the thing still would not fire. we replaced the pickup coil still did not fire so now it's getting a new dist.,plug and wires and we'll try it again.

we tried that to but nothing i don't have a clue. somebody said something about the spout plug but i can't find it and i don't know what this would have to do with what were working on. thanks

Removing the SPOUT plug disables the computer's ability to advance the timing. You cannot set the timing with the plug in place.
ok put new dist.,new coil, new plugs, wires set timing and this thing still running rough and will die when you pull it in gear. with spout plug in it's @tdc with timing light, with plug out it's @10 tdc. any help on this thanks in advance
^ Try advancing it a HAIR.
I set my timing by ear with the SPOUT in. Just turn it a little, drove it, turn it some more, drove it. Repeated till it knocked, then turned it back a hair. Just brought the wrench with me. My truck refused to have ANY pickup to it whatsoever when it got it.Runs like a champ now.

Night and day difference on my truck..
And I also messed up my timing order when I replaced my dist. But the plug routing was different than what I was used to.
well here's the crazy thing to me. we have checked this timing 3 diffrent times. the first time we pulled the #1 plug out turned it untill we were on the compression stroke blew my finger off the hole piston all the way up,set the rotor to number, put it back it wouldn't fire. take it out and turn it 180 to around to number 5 and she fired right up adjusted to around 10btc and she runs good. but after it runs for about a hour it won't fire back up. you tell me i'am at a lost. you can read all the things we've replaced on this truck this week it don't make any sense unless it's computer.
with spout plug in it's @tdc with timing light, with plug out it's @10 tdc.
That is not right unless you are setting the timing 10 degrees ATDC with the SPOUT out.
You need to time it 10 degrees BTDC with the SPOUT out.

That sounds like you are running it 180 degrees out.
