Cam swap ?s

I was looking at engine specs for my 94 302, its rated at 185 hp, than in 95, it jumps to 200 or 205, I can't remember for sure right now. Anyways, looking at engine specs, the only difference is the cam, so if I where to find a cam for a 95, and put on some 1.7 rockers, I could expect a good gain in hp #s right? But would the 94 computer work with the upgraded cam? I'm thinkin yes, as mine is a MAF. What's your guys thoughts?

The cam change happened in '94 so your motor already has the upgraded cam, just add 1.7 rockers and an exhaust system.

If it happened in 94, why does my repair manual show different cam specs for the 94 and 95, also the HP ratings? Could it be wrong?

Yeah my Chiltons manual has the same data but everything else I have read says the F4TE roller cam was introduced in the '94 model year. I think you will have to measure cam lift to know for sure, there is quite a bit more lift on the F4TE cam over the previous cam.. from just under 0.400" to about 0.450" on the exhaust side for example, so even if the lifter collapses a bit if you measure more than 0.400" lift you have the newer cam. All you need is a dial gauge and then remove the drivers side valve cover, setup the gauge on a closed exhaust valve and crank the motor over by hand until the gauge maxes out.

O ok, ya I was readin in my Chiltons too. I haven't looked anywhere else really. I've already up graded exhaust and ignition. So I guess now will be different rockers, and air intake.

Just get yourself an intake shorkle from a 300 or 460 truck and maybe an aftermarket drop in filter(not oiled), otherwise the stock intake plumbing is more than adequate for a 5.0.

I was going to make a pipe that bolts to the MAF, and put a aftermarket filter on there. But I'm not sure what I want for sure.

There's nothing wrong with using a conical filter but it needs to be shielded from underhood air so that fan wash can't mess up the MAF readings and so the motor isn't sucking in hot undergood air in the summer. There is also a lot of debate about the oiled filters contaminating the hot wire element inside MAF meters, I have seen this myself and won't use that type filter on a MAF motor anymore but everybody get to make their own choice.

I know the oiled ones screw with the Chevys a lot, never seemed to have a issue on any Fords that I've seem.
