Hey guys I have a 1989 Ford bronco with a 351W. The truck currently has an AOD transmission off a 302. The AOD seems to have a lot of slipeage and has no grab at all, so I am just looking for a way to utilize my engines power better. I was wondering if a 5 speed manual would fit in place, or maybe an E40D. Thanks guys
I would suggest rebuilding your AOD instead. That transmission can be rebuilt for a reasonable price and stronger with the right parts.
To convert to a 5 speed or E4OD you need to relocate the crossmember and install a different length driveshaft. The 5 speed needs an extra pedal and slave cylinder and the E4OD needs a different harness, ECU and a pickup and an exciter ring (in the rear end for speed reference) because it is a computer controlled transmission.
