Ok so a few days ago I put in a new alternator in my truck when I went to hock up the battier smoke n sparks went flying from the starter switch n the vault reg. there was a lose wire comeing from the switch n was touching the vault reg. I replaced both of thos n I am not geting in power to anything its like there is not a battier in the truck n yes the battier is good I had it checked 3 times. anyone have any ideas that I may not have thought of plz feel free to share thank you
You may have fried the alternator, napa and some other stores should check it for free. Also make sure that the connections going into the voltage regulator aren't corroded, and that field, stator, etc. are all connected where they should be, and that no wire is overlooked.
kool ty I will check on that I hope i didnt frie it, but if the alt. is bad should i at lest get power to the gagues inside the truck n the lights are not geting power lol but I will check the wires n make sure they are good.
Look at the large post on the solenoid where the battery + wire connects. Under this large wire should be a smaller wire or wires. In this smaller wire should be a colored rubber thing in the wire. This is a fusible link, and it's probably burnt out. Pull on it and if it stretches, it's probably bad. The store has new ones.
Check for power in the fuse box. If there is no power there at all, your problem has to be out at the solenoid area that you looked before. Will your headlights work? If not, that points even more to a power problem out at the smaller wiring feeding from the solenoid, feeding power to the truck.
