hi. I have a 2003 explorer, v6 XLT, with the towing package. I would like to tow a bumper pull 2 horse trailer. Is this vehicle equipped to handle towing 2 or 3 thousand pounds? (weight of trailer and one horse)
and what is the point of the towing package if not?
If you have the towing package (2" receiver, 7-pin trailer connector, engine oil cooler and 3.73 LS rear end), I believe your towing limit is around 5500-6000#; my wife has our Explorer out-of-town right now so I can't check the Owner's Guide for an exact figure.
My brother had a V10 F250 with a gooseneck on it. Him and his wife pulled a 2 horse trailer for about 5 years and decided their next truck would be a diesel, which it is now.
I suspect the explorer would not be your best option for 2 horses.
