ok, 2002 f250 starter question. ive been having trouble with cold starts and before posting i started doing some research to rule a few things out. i went underneath my truck to check the starter (after checking ll of the gpr and gp issues) and i grabbed my starter at it was LOOSE, and i mean only a few threads left holding it on, im suprised it started at all with it that way. now my concern is this... ive read about our starters on here being 3 bolts holding it on, and 2 bolt on the selenoid, my starter only has 2 BOLTS, and 3 coming of the selenoid?? there is most certainly a 3rd hole for another bolt for the starter, and ive got the starter next to me with NO signs of modification, so the 3rd wasnt taken off with a grinder. im wondering if this starter came off a different truck and the previous owner figured it would work. also, there were only 2 wires connected to the selenoid, the third bolt was not being used. any ideas whats going on here? or is this a different version from ford?
ok, i looked on napa online and they have the 2 and 3 hole, the 3 hole is something about mitsubishi. should i get the 3 hole or go with another 2? im confused on this one
Make sure the bolts you pulled out are the right thread.I found two different bolts in mine when it was loose. The top one was absolutly the wrong bolt.It would thread in but never get tight.I took the bottom bolt(good one)to the parts store and bought two identical to it.Solved my backing out problems.....As suggested ^^^use Loctite on them but clean the holes out good.
