Wierd Idleing problem

I have a wierd problem. I know the choke on the carb dosen't work. It wont open when the truck is warm. But when I turn on the heater it will idle like nobody's business. Any suggestions?

start looking for a vacum leak. spray carb cleaner on everything that has to do with vacume, when the idle raises, you have found the problem

When I first bought the truck the guy told me that there is a metal hose that runs along the back of the motor. I think he said that it is hooked up to the air pump. But there is a crack in the hose. Does that line draw any vaccum? Would it cause some of my problems?

that is connected to the air pump, and only comes on at part throttle, it needs to be repaired, because it leans out the mixture, and helps with gas mileage/emmissions. you may find that your carb is loose, and only needs some tightning. but still check for vacum leaks. you should also check into what it would take to fix the choke, would make the truck a little more polite to deal whit when first started

I have the air pump unhooked. I am not sure how it hooks up. The hose that comes from the pump was unhooked at the back of the motor when I got it. Is there a diagram of it somewhere where I can hook it up. And I have changed the exhaust so that part wont go back in.

on my mustang, I removed those air tubes, and put pipe plugs in the head where they hooked up.

It is idleing fine now. Don't know what happened. But when I go to crank it I let the ele fuel pump run for a little longer then usual and then crank it and it is fine. Maybe the floats need to be adjusted. And I installed a little sun pro tach to see where I am ideling at. A nice little upgrade to the interior. The black looks good with the wood grain and blue.

might have a little crap in the fuel bowl, and it moved away from the idle jets. hope it stays there, away from the jets.

I do plan on getting an aftermarket intake and carb. Nothing special though. Just for a little bit more out of it. It is already fun to drive. Just want a little more power.

Now that I have to idling fixed I have an exhaust leak. When in it is park and at higher rpms you cant hear it. When I put it in drive it is there. Before it was loud all the time but today I went to put new exhaust manifold gaskets on and there wasn't even one on the driver side. That was the biggest part of the leak. No duh right. Do you have any suggestions.
