i have an 85 f150 with the almighty i6 and im lookin to get rid of the cats and run a 2 1/2 inch straight pipe off the stock manifold. ive already cut the muffler off but i know the truck has a computer and i think i saw an o2 sensor and i wanna know if its gonna run funny without the cats. im gunna run the o2 sensor and the air pump for now and i do eventually plan to throw a cat on it once smog time rolls around again ide just like to run it straight for now. also other then this the truck is gonna stay stock for now i just want loud and even with just the stock cats and a pipe runnin out the side of the truck its pretty quiet
Sorry couldn't resist. I don't think it's a problem because the O2 sensor is pre cat the exhaust constituents should not change and if they do it will be minimal. The computer should be able to handle this. Maybe someone who has done this will chime in and state their experience. Anyway it's a free bump ttt.
My dog works for me too, but if you live in the city with no dog, a pellet gun would be the best choice since it makes no neighbor annoying noise.
As far as removal of the catalytic converter, I think on vehicles this early it's no problem. On later vehicles there are O2 sensors before and after the converter. The computer then looks for a difference in temp before and after the converter. If the temp is not different by 100 degrees it sets a code. If there is no O2 sensor AFTER the converter, you're probably okay.
