Importing a Lifted Superduty into Canada?

I am actually asking this question on behalf of a young man who put a non-refundable deposit down on my truck... and I don't want him to lose any money.

I have a Ford F-350 with an 8" lift kit. He said he did some reasearch and came up with some bad news. He was told that he can not import a truck into Canada with a lift kit previously installed.

I know some of you have lifted trucks, maybe you can confirm or deny?

Thank You in advance!
John

No actual contribution, but possible loophole:

Define "import". Maybe you could just drive it there "on vacation", and have someone drive you back in a different vehicle.

But I'm interested to hear what the real laws are.

My son bought a 05 dodge hemi lifted 6" from the States and brought it to Ontario 2 yrs ago....no problem. He's in Alberta now and 2 months ago he took it there, and to get it safetied, he is supposed to bring it back to stock.
Unless the law has changed or he's in Alberta, he should be OK

FoxNotch... the paperwork will still have the previous owner from outside Canada, so that won't work.

Guy I played hockey with did the same thing, had to return it to stock to cross the border then just threw the lift back on.

Mr Predator,
You can probably look up Canada import laws on the internet or else use the internet to find a phone number for any Canadian border crossing (port of entry). Call them for that info. If anyone brings a vehicle into the US they must declare their intent to import and they have 1 yr to have it titled in the US or they must either export it or have it destroyed under Customs supervision. Failure to do so invokes a $10,000 fine. Canadian law is probably similar. Its pretty decent of you to being checking this out. A lot of folks would not give a damn and just keep the deposit. Good for you.

John,

Of course I don't know the "young man" but I would hope he's an honest/decent fellow, but I suppose there might be a chance he's simply trying to get out of the deal and maybe get his deposit back. With that said I can confirm that (big lift) US trucks can be brought into British Columbia (I have no idea of other Provinces). I don't know the process involved, but it is doable.
I recommend finding an importer to take care of all the details.
I'm sure there are tricks that can make it easier and pitfalls to avoid.
Hire an importer simply because it's a lifted truck and I'd hope a good importer will know the ins and outs of the process of importing a custom/lifted truck.

I think another concern would be Canada requires daytime running lights . An importer or shipper would probably be the easiest to get answers from.

Rick...
Happened to my friend bringing a lifted Chevy into Alberta, had to return it to stock to bring it home. Then he re-installed the lift. He could afford it though so although not ideal wasn't a big problem for him.

Canadian Tire kits are even acceptable for DRLs on US imports.
