New Tires

Need new tires for my 2005 4x4 SuperCab XLT. The original size is P255/70R17.
What can I go up to on the stock rims? I want something a little beefier but don't want to buy new wheels or do a lift.

Go to the tirerack web site and look around. They have a upsize and downsize listing for tires.

ok, so I clicked on the "other sizes and pricing" tag and it came up with ones with blue dots. I guess those are the other size options I could actually use as long as the rim sizr is right?

My '05 with the 17" alloys came with the stock tires. I replaced them with LT 285/70R17 BFG TA/KO's. Look good and are wearing well. I currently have about 20,000 on them, and they dont look worn hardly at all. Have rotated them 2 times, and ready to do another. They recommend every 6000m.

Baitmaster your truck looks great with those tires! I was going to throw a set of new 265/70 17 on my stock rims for the winters....I'm leaning toward the 285's now...

And +1 on the level kit?

285s?! didn't think you could go that big on the stock rims. Did you have to do a lift? Could you post or send me some pics?:eddie_rickard@hotmail.com

I put 285/70/17 on stock rims with a hell bent steel 2.5 level kit. I'm pretty happy with the results. I'll try to get a picture tomorrow.

Did you install the level kit yourself? How much was it? Difficult?

no kit

I do not have a leveling kit on my truck, and it has never rubbed a tire. I have been on some pretty rough mountain roads and all of the tires look like they have only seen pavement. Discount Tire said they would work, and since I have bought tires from them for 20 yrs, I had no worries. Only a small dif on the speedo, I dont worry about it.

Here is my truck with 285/70/17s with original rims and a 1.5" leveling kit. As long as you have all the right tools installing the leveling kit was not overly difficult. Just take your time and you will be fine if you end up doing that.

That looks great, man. How much are these leveling kits going for.
Really, not too flashy, just looks stout and tall. That's exactly what I'm looking for.
Would still like to see some pics of 265's too from someone

If you look on Ebay the Autospring leveling kits are usually around $80. I went with 1.5" cause I tow so if you want it to be perfectly level normally I would go with 2" or 2.5". The Autospring kit works great and I would recommend it to anyone.
