throttle postion sensor

where is the throttle postion sensor located on a 1989 f150 with a 5.8 efi

On the bottom of the throttlebody.

look at your motor and find where the throttle cable and the 2 air tubes attach to the engine on the bottom of that assembly is the tps

ok i thought i was done is there ne way to check and see if the tps is good or bad

Sure, take an analog VOM and watch the needle on the 10 VDC scale while back probing the connector on the TP wire (DG/LG) going back to the computer an turn on the key. Then slowly move the throttle to WOT and see if the needle moves steady up the scale with out any jerks. The Voltage readings should be from about 0.9 VDC to about 4.5 VDC.
The NEG wire of the VOM should be on the SIG RTN wire (BK/W).

Also check the O/W VREF wire to the BK/W wire, it should be 5.0 Volts +- 0.05 Volts.

The wire colors are the trucks wire colors from the computer to the connector of the TPS. The wires to the TPS from the connector may not be the same color.
