hey guys
Got a 01 7.3 with 110000 on it.
Injectors # 2 and 8 are throwing a code.
But it only runs rough after driving it for 5 mins or so. Dont have much knowledge on the computer trucks. Any ideas other then bad injectors?
thanks
have you had the CPS recall performed on this truck
The reason I ask is there is a known issue with "phantom codes" produced by different CPS's. IRRC the codes are for cyl 3 and 8, not 2 and 8 as well as rough running issues correlating with the new CPS.
Take a look at the sticky thread at the top of this forum and let us know.
I know what you mean, sometime it's hard to fix something when you cant see whats broke.
I still have a 76 1/2 ton 4X4 PU of a brand that I will not mention here that I keep around just because the only "electronic" piece in it is the pickup in the distributer. Sometime it helps to restore my faith in myself as a mechanic just to pop the hood on that rig.
he is talking about my truck. first came back as idm, the mechanic said he didnt believe that and then it came back as injectors 2 and 8. he thought maybe i had some bad diesel, had half tank put a quart of tranny fluid with 2 gallons of kerosene in the tank and it didnt help it. i also changed the fuel filter after i burned the rest of the tank out. now the ses light stays on and you all know how it runs with that light on. so should i just bite the bullet and put the 2 bad injectors in or do u think maybe its in the valve cover wiring? the parts guy at the local dealership here siad he would just about bet that the wiring is burnt. idk?
thanks for the help and bad12 im gonna get u when u get back to work!
First we really need to know the code. Probably P1316. Wiring is a possibility, but a loose connector, not burnt. The OBS trucks had issues with burnt pins. Our connectors just tend to come loose.
#2 & #8 are on the same side, which means pulling the driver side valve cover, or at least ohming the wires, unless the issues were with #3 & #8. That, as mentioned, is a CPS related issue. #8 contribution codes are fairly common in these motors so we tend to ignore those unless there's a reason not to.
