I have a 302 with the stock intake tube and a K&N filter. After reading all of this you all are saying that for better MPGs it would be best to put a I6/460 air tube on it with a paper filter such as Purolator? And if this is the case, how long does it take to replace the 302 intake tube with the 460's?

It takes just several minutes to replace the original intake tube with the 7.5 tube. No tools-other than a screwdriver to pry out the plastic pins that hold the original intake tube to the radiator support.
The drop in K&N will give more horsepower than a paper filter. But some people think that the K&N doesnt filter as well.

About 2 minutes!...........the threaded insert should already be in your rad. support, remember to keep the fastener that held the 460 intake in place off the donor rig..........lets see, hmm........A intake that is smashed between the top of the rad. and closed hood or one that actually breathes fresh air from the grill opening......its a no brainer.

I didn't think this pulled air from the grill opening, I thought it pulled air from the left side of the grill behind the headlight.

Check your rig, opening is alongside rad. just slightly obscured by the grille..........but pulling fresh, cold air MUCH better than a stock 302/351 intake and far better than some bogus CAI stuck inside the engine compartment

I would love too, but both of my rigs are 351's, I pulled the 300/460 intake from a junkyard truck a few weeks back and I don't really recall how it would relate to the grill. Plus the grill was gone on that truck.
