What are the common reasons for windshield wiper malfunction? On our 97' the wipers act like they want to work (meaning the raise 3-4 inches a couple times) but fail to raise above that.
I was thinking they were froze, but the temps have been somewhat close to above freezing the last couple days. The linkage between the two wipers seems to be in good shape.
I'm not seeing anything that would point to the multi-function switch? I've only worked on pre-1995 wiper systems before.
Is the black plastic piece removable to see what's going on?
I've done some searching on this topic, but 99% of the threads point to the multi-function switch it seems.
Sounds like you need to add some grease. Maybe it's dry or something.
In wipe, Mid wipe and Out wipe.......for those who know.
One thing you don't want to do is start bending or torqueing the blade or arm-it's screwed for sure then.
Never removed one before....can't be to bad- may need new fasteners after.
Oh yea, If I move my tilt wheel all the way down my wipers stop altogether.
If I move the tilt wheel all the way back up the wipers work just fine. I don't worry about it since I live in az but been told it is the multi switch.
One day when I get froggy I may exchange the switch for a new one.
It sounds like your multi-function switch. Take the upper plastic cover off of the steering wheel and look at the connection. It sounds like your connection is coming apart when you tilt the wheel down. They make the connections on those as short as possible. The plastic clip holding the connections together might be broke as well.
