I changed my computer on my 2000 Expedtion 5.4 Liter. The original computer had a Code of ZUT4 YLIF-BE and the new one had a different code.YLIF-BC I had the keys coded and the truck seems to runs fine but I feel it pings a little at throttle up. I was just curious if the number on this computer has to be the same. Can I install a Diablo chip on the new computer. PLEASE ADVISE IF THIS COMPUTER SWAP WAS OK> THERE ARE NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON!!
YLIF-BC is the hardware code. To program a chip we'd need the software calibration code (such as the ZUT4). As a alternative I can try cross referencing a 4-bank code. The pinging is probably due to slightly more advanced timing with the new calibration. You can get it reprogrammed at a Ford dealer to back the timing off a degree to remove the pinging.
Ken,
Would a diablo performance chip solve this problem? Would my 5.4 expediton run better? The code on the computer is ZUT4. Which chip do you recommend? Seeing that ford changed the ecm do I need any other info off the ECM before I order? All is say under the hood on a sticker is that they replaced the ecm with a new ecm number YL1Z*12A650*BE. Should I install a K&N Filter for added performance. I want to order just want to get the right stuff. Currently my expedtion only gets 13 mpg city 16 mpg Hwy. Also says only to run 87 octane. Do I run super when I install the chip you recommend? Look forward to your guidance. I hate taking my truck to the dealer. They suck
