I bought a 2002 excursion with a v 10. I have a 1996 7.3 I am very happpy with the responsiveness of the v 10. I have a couple of questions will i get any mpg improvement from a k&n filter. Also is a cold air intake worth the money ? My old truck was a crew cab short bed 4x4 . It did not hold a candle to the room in our new ex. By searching around i was able to find an 02 with 35000 miles on it. The previous owner had a file on it that showed ever reciept for every oil change and any type of dealer service ever performed on the vehicle. Also the vehicle has always been garage kept so it looks flawless. The leather was perfect . So my wife and I are now very proud owners of the king of the suvs.
Congrats on the new to you Ex - hell of a score! I just bought a 2002 as well (diesel).
In speaking with my diesel tuning guy, he said the CAI makes a pretty minor difference but it does help. It sounds cooler that is for sure. I don't know about chipping the gassers but on my Ex a chip made a huge difference. I'd look into that first...
Congrats on the new purchase! It's hard to really add too much power or performance with these V10 motors.. You have to do alot for very little in return.
If you ask anyone running a Scangauge or other diagnostic scanner, they will pretty much all tell you the same thing. The IAT on these things is equal to the outside air temp about 99.999% of the time. You will probably get the same gains as a CAI (for FAR less cash) by just adding a better flowing filter, since you're not going to drop the IAT any lower than it already is. Buy an SCT and maybe a y-pipe from 5 Star and be done with it.
I filled my tank this weekend after my initial tank when i bought it. I had about 140 miles of interstate driving on it driving it home from chicago and about 170 miles on it driving around town and local highways. and to my amazement it averaged out at 12 mpg. I am pleased with that due to the fact i checked and my tire pressure was at 50 psi and i generally run at 65 psi.So I adjusted that and my foot should lighten up now that i am getting used to the v 10. I had concerns after owning my 7.3 but the v10 is very powerful. Also my 7.3 only got 11 in town and 14 highway due to the 4:10 gears. Well thanks for the input I will look into the y pipe and filter as with any engine more air in and more exhaust out makes better power and mpgs.

+1 on the 5 star tuner. Reallllly changes how the truck behaves. Best $ spent on the V10 Ex. You will love the diff in throttle response and how much lighter it makes the beast feel
