Gas mileage? With 33x12.50s..Good Luck..I have a 1987 f150..I have converted to Mass air,dual electric cooling fans,k&n,underpulleys and 3g 130 amp alt..All i get is 15/19..Used to get about 12/17..
Your best options are going to be regearing the diffs to 4.10 or 4.56. The gears are really the most important thing. A good free flowing exhaust with a straight through muffler will also help things.
A good tune up with fresh fluids and filters will also help.
You could add a hotter TFI coil like MSD or Accel with some good spark plug wires.
The other beneficial mods are mostly going to be internal like cam or heads etc.
Don't waste your money on CAI, chips, throttle body spacers, KN etc.
Big question is, how much do you want to spend? I mean if you wanted to dig into your motor a little bit you could throw on a set of heads, and a cam, and that would help. Add some headers and free flowing exhaust, and that would help.
Lots of good deals on ebay for parts too!
well thanks for the input. i am only gettin like 8/12 mpg and just wanted a bit more. and i not looking to dig into the motor yet but in the future. and texasguy001, where could i look for some gears? and bout how much, and would that take away from my hwy speeds?
The right gear ratio will actually make your truck drive better around town and on the highway. Since your truck has overdrive lower gears won't hurt you on the highway. The gears are the only way to really compensate for bigger tires. You can get gears from Summit and Jegs. You might also want to look on Ebay for a ring and pinion set that someone bought but never got around to using. You could go with used gears, but your probably better off with new ones. Just make sure they are for an 8.8 rear end. It will probably cost several hundred bucks to have it done though. I didn't see it mentioned if your truck is 2wd or 4wd. If its 4wd just regear the rear first and then save up for the front. Just don't run 4wd until the front is matched up.
