Accessory drives

I have a ‘86 F150 4x4 with 302 (5.0) engine. Would like to upgrade the "V" belts to serpentine drive keeping air pump, alternator, power steering and A/C compressor. Water pump was recently replaced and would like to reuse if possible. Search found an interchange of front covers. Does anything like that exist for brackets? Are there any guides as to what is needed?

Um not sure how you did this but you might want to repost this as it is quite difficult to read.

first off if you go the serpentine setup you will have to replace the water pump with a reverse rotation pump.secondly you should be able to find what you need from a wrecker.i had a system from an late 80's mustang.

Ok, I’ll try rewording. I want to swap to a serpentine belt system. I’ll need reverse rotation water pump, different timing chain cover and brackets. Will my alternator, power steering pump, a/c compressor and air pump mount to these brackets or do they also need changed? I’m in the planning stages of the swap and not sure what to look for.

i don't think you will have to change the timing cover(someone will correct me if i'm wrong).i'm pretty sure all your accessory's will work you will have to change the pulley's.might be easier to grab the accessory's with all the brackets at a wrecker.i did this like 12 years ago and trying to remember all this.

I've done the swap. I used the bracket setup off an 88 truck. You do not need a new timing cover, You will a new water pump. The power steering pump, AIR pump, and alternator will all fit. They just require a pulley change. The AC compressor is different. You'll also need new AC hoses. I've read the setup from 86-93 Mustangs will fit a truck. I can tell you from experience the 95-96 Mustang setup will not work.

You will also need a new fan, since it runs in reverse.

Technically the timing covers are designed for the different water pumps, so there is a difference. Timing covers are expensive or hard to come by at times. I had a v belt cover on my mustang for some time and was racing it, it worried me to death, but the car ran fine.

Thanks guys, that is what I was looking for. This is the first Ford I want to modify and I was confused on what needed changed. Searched the Internet and only found write-ups on aftermarket conversions that left off one or more items.

To clarify, you can put a newer reverse rotation water pump on a older timing cover for a standard rotation/v-belt water pump.

BTW, since "cash for clunkers" timing covers are a dime a dozen in boneyards. Idiots.
