The headlight lamp bulbs are noticeably dimmer after 11 years of operation. What is a great replacement lamp for a 2000 SD? And more importantly, what is NOT a good product?
I'm not interested in expensive swaps and HID kits. If it costs much more than $100 then forget about it. If it's not plug and play then forget about it. I'm not saying you can't use this thread to talk about swaps, but it's just a light for goodness sake.
A lot of the threads I found in a search were over 5 years old. They were really good threads at the time, but I'm wondering if technology has changed enough that the answers are different now.
I have a 1999, first thing I did was get rid of the ugly and dim headlamp assembly. And put the best silverstar 9007 series builds in them, they are $40 at about ant auto parts store. I also have these in my wrangler and I get flicked off all the time for people thinking my brights are on, they made a HUGE difference from the OEM bulbs. This was the first thing I did to my truck because lighting is very important to me. HIDs are jsut to expensive in my opinion
You can get silverstars or the like. Avoid any blub that is obvoiusly painted blue tint. Silverstars have some sort of color to them but it's not the same as the fake HID halogens. Of course a wiring upgrade is a good idea for best performance. Personally I don't see enough difference in the silverstars to use them, and they don't last as long. I would go with a regular halogen and wiring upgrade and you will be under $100
I bought Sylvania bulbs for my wife's Explorer and they made a significant difference. Sylvania offers several replacements and they all vary in lifespan. I didn't want to get the brightest, shortest lived bult and ended up with the Sylvania Xtravision. It's pretty good. It's not the best, but it's pretty cheap and they carry them at Walmart, or just about anywhere.
