Hi. I have a '74 F350 with a 460/c6. When the engine/transmission is cold it will not shift into first until the engine/trans are warmed up, but it will shift into reverse no problem. Once warmed up it shifts into first and on up like normal. Cold mornings can take a while to warm things up. Once it's at operating temp I can park it for an hour or so and get back in and it's fine, depending on ambient temp and how much it has cooled.
The trans fluid and level are good. Changed trans fluid a few years ago and not a whole lot of mileage since then. I put some "TransX" additive in it a while back and it seemed to help some. Any ideas? Thanks.
Its a common problem with the c6, the rubber seal in the forward drum hardens over time and is unable to seal properly when cold. The only way to fix this is to replace the seals inside the trans, bottom line its rebuild time.
