Neat 4x4 van

Spotted this at the swap meat in Nipomo, CA a couple weeks back:

I had heard about this system before, but I can't find any info online now. It was a 78 or 79 E250, it looks like it's been sitting there for a while.

Found some more info on it, apparently the system was made by Dana and called the V-drive.

The second pic explains a lot more. When I saw the first pic I thought of the County tractor that had drive shafts going to the front axle like that but on the County they came from gear drives on the rear axle.

Popular Mechanics or Mechanix Illustrated had an article on them way back then.

Iirc, that was the only way to put 4x4 into a Dodge van, I don't know why Dodges couldn't use a 'normal' front axle.
