If I play my cards right I might be getting an Ic from a newer 7.3 sunday. Well I been readin' up. so what I don't get is why is that 99 spider even needed? why couldn't the air pipe be plumbed outa the turbo, straight to the IC without that fancy T or Y spyder doohicky then straight from the IC into the motor? Could it be turbo lag? If so, how bad could it be? Seems a lot easier to fabricate without it. I dunno. any thoughts?
It could, but the spider pipe keeps you from having to fab something up. All you need to do is run the hot pipe from the turbo to the intercooler hot side and run the cool pipe into the motor at the intake. If you have the skills and patients to fab one it could definitely be done.
It has nothing to do with the turbo lag. The problem is that there is almost no room on the outlet of the compressor housing. The cold pipe that goes into the intake has to fit right undernearth the hot pipe.
Yes! that was what I was thinking. The banks twin ram picture is what I had in my mind. Having seen it now I know it can be done. first things first tho....I gotta get the IC in hand. If I can get this 7.3 IC for $100...still a good deal?
If I can find a spider, I guess that WOULD make it easier. I just don't get how the air knows to even go thru the IC with the spider if it can just go straight into the motor...maybe the laws of physics have something to do with it

LOL the intake spider while one piece is still two different flow paths for the air. The turbo outlet isn't connected to the engine inlet even though its the same unit.
OH! so if you look inside the spider is there like an internal cast closed web separating the 2 air paths? kinda like a duplex condo share a common wall...like good neighbors?wierd analogy I know. Anyway Thanks Tim, again I learn something new
