Ok so i am new to this site and just thought id tell you all that. but i have a 99 f250 and when i drive it the transmission pushes out fluid and runs on the exhaust and burns and when it just sits in one spot while running it will eventually shut off and suggestions or comments my friend said most likely torque converter and a seal would do the trick
Are you sure it's the transmission leaking on the exhaust and not oil leaking out from the manifold cover (gasket) in the rear passenger side. It was a problem in that year of truck. My '99' 5.4 had the problem, you could smell oil burn smell occasionally.
im not sure i'll have to check that but do you know anything about the engine eventually killing itself just not sure on that part because we've had transmission problems before and now their saying its the torque converter
I am assuming it's a gas engine. No, just check the oil level. I still have my '99' with over 240k miles and auto trans with nothing done to it. Who is they? Your transmission fluid is low? Why do "they" say it the tq converter... shifting hard or erratic? Throwing codes? I would think that if your losing trans. fluid it would be seen on the bottom of the trans. plus low on the stick or stains on the ground where your parked.
because after a while the engine locks up or shuts down and the parts store person told me the tq converter is just causing it to lock up thats the main problem im having with it
I'm sure you have codes and need to find what they are. Not that I don't think "they'' know what "they" speak of, but I feel that there are more mechanics working behind counters that have done nothing more than dole out parts and repeating what "they" over hear. I could be wrong though.
Part stores like Advance auto can read them for free, it's as simple as hooking the reader to the connection below and to the right of the steering wheel beneath the dash.
