ive read the oem shaft is not very good, but aftermarket ones run 4 to 5 hundred dollars?? would another oem be ok with my bigger tires? what do you guys think??
I believe Borgeson is the the only aftermarket manufacturer for a replacement
intermediate shaft. They use a u joint to replace the rag joint and a spline joint
to allow the shaft length to vary so it can still collapse.

From what I've seen, the plastic sleeve/insert which is in the middle of the two shafts wears and causes play in the steering. If you separate the two shafts when you reassemble the intermediate shaft the plastic sleeve can be
pushed up into the upper shaft. This causes alot of steering play
Some people say Ford no longer sells the intermediate shaft or parts for it for the 87-91 model years.
