fuel filter swap help

fuel filter swap help
In the process of trouble shooting my no/hard starts. So far I've replaced the gp's and gpr and still no start. Today I got a new CPS(black w/ purple ring) and fuel filter- IH. When I opened up the fuel bowl I noticed the old filter looked brown and gooey. The prob is I can't get the thing off. The new filter I got has these locking clips that are supposed to snap into these grooves on the fuel bowl cover. My cover doesn't have these grooves, plus I can't figure out what is holding the old one on. Did I buy the wrong filter or was I supposed to get a new cover also? Thanks

They fit tight over the center post.
There is a seal on the bottom of the center post that seals it to the post. Sounds like you have some algae problems, so your gonna have to change the filter and add some stuff to kill the algae.
Nothing in the filter housing you can break if you grab the filter and pull up hard.
as for the filter and clips and yada yada, i have no idea.
