Lincoln Continental... NEED HELP!

hey guy,
I have a 96 Lincoln Continental with a 4.6L V8. The engine doesn't shut off when the key is turned off and removed from the egnition. Owner says she has to unhook the battery cable and pull the fuse to the fuel pump before it will shut off... Any Ideas guys????

yeah i'll deffinatly post there I just didn't know if anyone would be able to give me an answer since i was already on here. A lady at work owns the car and wanted to know what the fix was for it... She already changed the ignition tumbler assembly. I will try a 4.6 v8 forum.

ok... I was looking on RockAuto and trying to find the part that she needs to replace... Just so I'm understanding a ignition actuator is not a ignition control module and they are 2 seperate parts but both are in her car...

Or, they are 2 seperate parts but only one of which will be in her car?

ignition actuator or ignition switch, it's located on steering column near fire wall....

I am guessing it is similar to the truck system, in which case QL2 is right.
The actual ign switch would be on the steering column under the dash, connected back up the column to the key switch by a rod and the actuator.
The key switch turns a gear cog which engages the actuator and operates the rod to the ign switch.
You need to pull the steering wheel to get at it.

Ignition Switch

The ignition switch (11572), which is mounted on the steering actuator housing, operates in the following manner:

* The ignition switch is cycled through rotation of the ignition switch lock cylinder (11582) through a pin which is part of the ignition switch.

* The ignition switch lock cylinder also controls the mechanism which provides a positive lock for the automatic transmission linkage and steering system.

* The locking mechanism is located in the steering column housing.

The ignition switch lock cylinder positions are as follows:

ACC
LOCK
OFF
RUN
START

The ignition switch lock cylinder key can be removed from the ignition switch lock cylinder with the column-shift automatic transmission only when the shift lever is in PARK and the key is in LOCK position.

* The ACC position operates while the steering and automatic transmission systems remain locked.

* The engine shuts off when the key is turned to the OFF position without locking the steering or automatic transmission systems.

Blade Type

The ignition switch has blade-type terminals that engage with one multiple connector. The multiple connector is secured to the ignition switch by an integral connector fastener.
