[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-May-02 AT 03:27 PM (EST)]I know I will feel like an idiot when this question is answered but what the heck. In the 2003, there are 7 speakers in the EB. I found 5, 1 in each door and the sub is by the 3rd seat, but where are the other two? I guessing the dash.
Also, what is the best place to find accessories for an Expy?
I havent really started tinkering with my trucks audio system yet to talk from experience but a theroy i have is if they're not located in the dash maybe their using a two-way speaker in the front doors that have the mid-driver and tweeter in the same housing....
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-May-02 AT 09:25 PM (EST)]Try this website, it should answer all your questions about the 03. (or atleast they claim to.)
Nope, looked all over the front and changed the fade/balance to the driver side hoping to find another speaker. The only one I saw and heard was the one in the door. There are no speakers in the dash or on the pillars. I have tried the Ford site to no avail. I will keep looking.
This is really starting to pi$$ me off. I have been all over the Ford and Visteon site with no luck. I search through the owner's manual. I have asked the dealer. Somebody? Anybody?
Tarnation -- did you ever figure it out? By the way, I noticed you are pretty ticked off, so I was wondering why you needed to know where all the speakers are ... are you going to replace them with aftermarket equipment?
On another, related issue, now that you've got some more days under your belt, any additional impressions / comments about your new ride?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-May-02 AT 03:28 PM (EST)]It started to tick me off because the speakers are not even discussed in the owner's manual or anywhere else other than saying the EB version has 7 speakers. Thats not necessarily true in my opinion. There are 5 total speakers, one in each door plus the sub in the back. Ford considers the two way speaker in the front doors 4 (2 per door). The two-way consists of the woofer and tweeter. In my opinion, its one speaker but it is common practice among auto companies. The main reason, again my opinion, is that some automakers separate the tweeter and woofer in the front and count them as a total of 4 (2 per door). I did change speakers (more wattage, factories are 20 watts per speaker, and went with 4 two-ways in all the doors) but did not change the sub. I just wanted a little crisper sound on the high end.
After having the vehicle for a week and a half, I am still glad I traded in the '98 EB. The ride, stereo, comfort, and everything else is just so much better. My only complaint is there is a small rattle in both front doors. Not sure exactly where it is coming from but I believe it is the molding outside. The rattle occurs when driving over bumps, etc. I decided to wait before I take it in to see if it "settles"; however, I did tell my dealer. Its little things that bother me and rattles are one.
I didn't change them out myself, had someone do it professionally for fear of messing something up. I did hear it was fairly easy to change out. Didn't mean to imply I increased my wattage, you would need to add and maybe change your stereo system to increase wattage. I believe the speakeers that are rated higher on wattage can be pushed more without distortion than the others.
By the way, if you change out stereo systems you lose the controls in the second seat. They will no longer function. Also, when I went to several audio dealers they said I could not change out my speakers because of the way they were configured by JBL. BUT, in the mid-90's, Ford changed the configuration because of this problem. My point, don't let an audio dealer convince you to buy a new stereo system to upgrade your speakers. I went with something fairly inexpensive, Pioneers 6x8's two ways. Cost was 89.00 bucks per pair plus another 70 for installation. I believe it was worth it.
How is your Expy coming along? Projected delivery date yet?
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-May-02 AT 05:12 PM (EST)]Are you referring to the second row controls for the stereo? I guess maybe you would lose the steering wheel controls too? I was pretty happy with the stereo on my 1998 Expy so I guess this one will be fine. If somebody anticipates big audio/video install, it would probably be best not to buy an Eddie Bauer. Your idea of upgraded speakers seems like a good one, though.
I will check with my dealer tomorrow. My contact there was just getting back from vacation today, so I didn't want to bug him. I'm hoping he will say delivery is 6/10.
I never picked up on this until I saw it mentioned in another forum. Is it true that with the 6CD in dash unit on the Eddie Bauer, there is NO cassette player at all? My current vehicle (Acura MDX) has both a 6 CD in dash and still takes cassette too. Occassionally cassette is handy -- children's music and books on tape.
