A short while back I remember some chatter re: mercury truck
While looking through ebay I saw this item # 220559086041
Just thought the eye candy for merc lovers was irresistable.
one problem though...F10YC860616...wouldnt Merc trucks have it as an M at the least ??? Theres nothing in the MPC about the 66-8 Merc trucks as to series designation and differences in codes on the warranty plate...The differences as Ive come to know them between Ford and Merc is the upper valance, tailgate, fender badging and I would assume horn ring/button and possibly the seat back as the CC trucks all had the gear and lightening logo with FORD embossed in the vinyl.
Thoughts ???
This in an interesting one to say the least...

There's nothing in the MPC about the 66-8 Merc trucks as to series designation and differences in codes on the warranty plate. Uh...
1966/68 Merc trucks use the same Warranty Plate, same VIN as US trucks. The 1965 Warranty Plate and VIN is unique to Mercury's.
Everything related to 1965/68 Mercury trucks can be decoded using the 64/72 truck parts catalog.
What is the MODEL code of this truck? The seller didn't post a pic of the Warranty Plate, which raises a Red flag.
Most 1965/72 and all 1973/79 Crew Cabs were assembled in Oakville. Most Ford trucks assembled in Oakville were/are sold in the US of A.
I've decoded several 1966 VIN's & their related Warranty Plate DSO codes, where the Ford trucks were assembled in Canada, but were ordered from Pittsburgh and Atlanta.
F10 = Ford (Mercury?) 100.
Y = 352 2V
C = Oakville, Ontario Canada Assembly Plant
860616 = 1966, assembled in May 1966.
Since there are no fender emblems on this truck, this raises another RED flag, as they were there...as original.
Missing fender emblems: This so-called Merc truck...could be a clone.
Zip & garbz2: A4 = Ford of Canada-Midwestern Region / A6 = Ford of Canada-Western Region.
Anyone interested in this truck? I could be induced to go look at it...as I'm about 25 minutes away from Santa Ana, CA.
Bill is absolutely right re: 66-68 using the same warranty numbers as US fords. You can't tell from the warranty plate if it is really a Mercury or not, unless the plate does not say it was built in Oakville. DSO might give you a hint as it should be a Canadian (or Australian or British) ordering district, but of course the non-rhotic versions have the steering wheel on the other side.
So, if it's got a Canadian A4 or A6 delivery It could be legit.
This even gets more complicated in the later Bumpside trucks because near the end of the run, the Mercury badging had been sent to at least one other assembly plant in San Jose (and there may be more). I have seen 1 and heard of another in Edmonton -legit '67 Mercs assembled in San Jose!!
And it becomes even MORE complicated when in '68 the Mercury dealers who started receiving Ford's after the Merc's halted production in March, would change a Ford to a Merc with the parts they had on stock, to make the sale!! (previous to the Ford dealers sold Ford trucks and Mercury Dealers sold Mercurys, even though they were both built in Oakville, Ontario)
I do not know if anyone saw the Mercury tailgate sell on ebay yesterday, but it went for $505.00 plus $100.00 shipping. It was a little rough but looked very repairable.
Yeah, I was always confused about why the 66 Short Merc I saw all the time in LA was a more standard looking VIN than my 65 M100.....now I know. Thanks!
Also - someone put up a "want" ad in my local craigslist for a Mercury tailgate, and I replied as I have an extra - he offered 50.00. I guess you can say I feel it's worth a little more.
