2003 Explorer - Replacing Left Front Suspension

2003 Explorer - Replacing Left Front Suspension
Wife had an accident - damaged left front suspension - actually broke the tie-rod end out of the aluminum steering knuckle. that is the only obvious damage. Doing a self repair - Body shop manager suggested I buy a whole left front suspension complete. He said unit should be reasonable price... ? Replace the whole unit - upper,lower control arms with steering knuckle. Has anyone had experience with this?
What to look for???? He said the upper control arm is probably all right... just would not risk not replacing lower while replacing the steering knuckle. Any thoughts opinions will be appreciated!

The bodyshop manager is right on my opinion as you don't know how much stress was applied to the parts that may be good or look good to the naked eye. It is better to not risk you family members to injury or worse should the part(s) involved fail at any speed. There are plenty of these cars in the bone yards with good suspension components and that is the way I would go with the repair. If you've never done this before you would be best off to get the parts from a source that allows you to remove the parts from the car yourself, that way you will have some experience and the assembly will go easier for you.
