Yet again, FTE saves me more money! I had ( note the 'had' part) a seat belt retractor that was not retracting the belt. Also, it seemed kinda short. I did the search, someone mentioned something stuck in the mechanism in another thread. So I went outside with flashlight in hand and looked harder at the retractor and saw that the seat belt had a few strands that were frayed. I yanked on one, and it broke, and 8 more inches of seatbelt came out! It has some more fraying, Not bad though, but enought that it was catching in the mechanism. Went inside, got the scissors, and clean cut the frayed stuff off. Retracts just like a new one now. Woo hooo. I was ready to spend 108 for aftermarket retractors. Now I can pocket the money! Also, I became a FTE club member!
Suggestion,,,
Use a bic lighter to GENTLY and CAREFULLY burn off the frayed spots. It seems to keep them from re-fraying better than cutting them.
I normally do this once or so a year to keep them fresh.
Good Call I will take mine apart and try the same thing it has been a pain for the last two years. I have just not wanted to part with the Benji's to replace them.
