Install tranny temp sensor

Put on my Mag-Hytec tranny pan from Riffraff and noticed a threaded port in it, would this be a good place for temp sensor or put into the tranny test port?

I think the test post would be a better location. IIRC the fluid travels from the pan through the transmission then exits the tranny to the cooler returning from the cooler to the pan. If that is true you would be reading the temp of the cooled fluid.

Might be cool to have 2 gauges so you could measure the efficiency of the tranny cooler

Just a thought.

my mechanical gauge is in the test port and i have a scan gauge. they are normally about 10* in variation. the mechanical one is 10* cooler than what the obd port is reading........

I have been getting abnormally high readings on my guage. The sensor was in the Mag port. I just a few weeks ago moved it to the tranny test port to see if it changes anything. Have not pulled the camper to see if there is a difference though.

The biggest heat generator in any auto trans is the torque converter. The oil flow in most all autos goes from the pan through the filter to the pump. It then splits some off to the hydraulic circut, and the rest to the torque converter. Hot oil returning frome the TC flows through the cooler then feeds the lube circut. This has been the basic flow since the beginning of the auto.

I would install the sensor in the test port. That way next time you change fluid and filter, you don't have to disconnect or remove the sensor to get the pan off. The sensor is still in the fluid flow so will be accurate.

I would think the gauge manufacturer would tell you where to put the probe and that would be the best place to put it (for that particular gauge). My Isspro trans temp said to use the test port.

Unless you have an aftermarket pan that is really about the only realistic place to put it so I am sure they feel it is not even worth mentioning. Just a guess on my part though.
