I think TexasRebel is right.
Unless the way FoMoCo changed the way options are packaged, the Integrated Trailer Brake Controller is as seperate $235 option and not included with the "Trailer Tow Package" that's listed under the "standard equipment" section of the window sticker.
Is your truck an XL trimmed model? I thought the TBC was standard equipment on XLT and up...
The good news is that the unit is relatively easy to install in the dash.
It all depends on what you want. While an aftermarket controller will be less expensive... you get what you pay for. For me, the price was worth having gain control at my foot along with the TBC aware of speed, ABS status, and the whole thing being out of the way...
1) the TBC module must be installed in place of the coinholder. If you have upfitter switches, it will directly replace the coinholder. If you do not have upfitter switches, you may have to purchase the right coinholder (I'm not sure if there is a 1 piece insert for those with neither the TBC nor upfitter switches) The wiring is already in place to simply plug the TBC module in.
2) the master cylinder has to be switched. While the master cylinders themselves are identical, the reserviors are different (no clue why) and the new one will have a second pressure sensor. The wiring is already in place for the new sensor.
3) This is the part that makes "plug & play" iffy. For your truck to know it has the iTBC, you have to take it to a dealership (or somebody else that has the ability to change PCM parameters) and have them turn the parameter for the TBC on.
The installation of components takes less than an hour, and the programming is quick once you can get scheduled and in. My dealership didn't even charge me the minimum hour... they generously charged me only a half hour
