What Have YOU Done To Your Truck Today?

Not really today...
But over a 3 week winterterm, I took "Vintage Panel Restoration" class at school, took the bed off of my truck and did a couple of things, not as many as I would have liked, still feel like a novice. Anyway, here's some pics: Bed off truck on worktable Front left of bed Always more rust than meets the eye Inner panel patch Outer panel patch "Finished" Right rear wheel well outer skin Rusted through inner wheel well Using "English Wheel" to give some shape to the panel Test fitting patch panel prior to tack welding with TIG Panel after getting it all tacked into place. Didn't get to finish TIG welding it into place, will have to go in during open shop times to finish welding it in. Overall I think it turned out pretty well, and is at least as good or better than what I could have gotten from LMC truck or some other company as far as body lines, and panel fitment. Have a lot more other things I want to work on though, as is always the case, will be taking trim, engine rebuilding, and electrical for the spring semester.

Well I discovered some brake problems so I automatcily thought it was the MC so I replaced the MC Saturday and then took Candy Cane for a wash and a spin around town. Come Sunday I discovered a puddle of brake fluid under the left rear drum on my driveway. I pulled the brake drum off and discovered the wheel cylinder is leaking and has soaked the brake shoes.
Bummed! I was going to drive Candy to work this week.

The wheels are SummitRacing 50/51's with 275-60-15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's
I think that Ultra wheels makes these for Summit since they have the same wheel available at different vendors such as Jeg's listed as a 050/051.
Unfortunately they're made in China, but they were less than $100 per wheel

I don't know why, but I am reluctant to do my own windshield. I have the new gasket and good trim, but seem to think I am just going to break the glass.

Well...a lot more than I had intended, that's for sure!
I was just going to change the hoses on my new 77, but as I pulled the heater hoses from the core, the nipple came out with the hose. So I got to change the core, too!
I must say, however, that changing the 77 High Output Heater core was not as bad as the 78 and 79 with factory air. Although the dealer air wasn't any fun to work around. The quick and dirty:
So another trip to the auto part for an adapter, and the hoses were finished. Flushed the system and filled it up with antifreeze and water. Now there is a new noise - sounds like water pump bearings. Guess I'll be pulling the water pump next...

- Pull three nuts from three studs in engine compartment
- unplug hot lead and ground wires for heater blower motor
- remove bolt securing dash (right side)
- remove 5 screws securing passenger vent
- unplug heater harness
- remove two control wires
- remove cigarette lighter assembly
- rotate dash up
- remove heater box assembly
- remove core cover
- remove core
- remove dead leaves, twigs and grime
- install in reverse
